5 ways to make food last longer

Properly storing food is the be-all and end-all if you want it to last as long as possible.  If this information is a bit late: Don’t worry, of course, there are also ways to save food that is just about at the end of its life from the garbage without having to organize a cooking party for 200 people. That is why today we present 5 methods that can be used to extend the shelf life of food by up to a year.

A little basic knowledge about grandma’s canning and fermentation rules is not only worthwhile when the shopping bags are too full. How about deep seasonal winter with local seasonal blueberries on your breakfast table? Next summer it’s time to harvest fruit and vegetables and keep them for the cold winter days. Until then, we will familiarize you with the basics of the different methods.

How it works:  The cold temperatures in the freezer compartment interrupt the activity of the enzymes of microorganisms and thus prevent food from spoiling. Food stays stable for up to a year.

The last alternative to the trash can is often the freezer compartment. From fruit and vegetables to pieces of bread and sauces to whole dishes, almost everything can be frozen and thawed if necessary. And you don’t believe how grateful you will be when you rummage through the freezer on a rainy Sunday and come across banana bread or just a few frozen bananas for a smoothie bowl.

If you like to lose track of your freezer and most frozen products end up in the trash after a while, put a list of all the frozen foods in the kitchen! Before you want to cook or shop for something, take a look, and see what can be integrated. It is best to always write a date when freezing because even in the freezer, food cannot be kept forever.
